What kind of grammar do we learn in the course?
We will review and practice fundamental grammar that is important for the Norskprøven:
- Word order (the V2 rule and dependent clauses)
- Verb tenses (present, past, perfect, future)
- Nouns (gender and definiteness)
- Agreement of adjectives
- Conjunctions (for, fordi, derfor, men, selv om)
The selection is based on both the school’s experience with what our students need most, and on second-language acquisition research that shows which areas are often challenging for learners.
What pronunciation topics do we work on?
We focus on vowels and consonants that many learners find difficult:
- Vowel pairs such as i/y, o/u, e/ø
- Consonant sounds like the “kj” sound and the “sj” sound
The selection is based on both our experience with previous course participants and research in Norwegian as a second language, which points to these as typical challenges.
Do we learn strategies to tackle challenges on the Norskprøven?
Yes. In the course, we work with various coping strategies that make it easier to handle unexpected situations, both orally and in writing. Among other things, you will practice how to:
- Describe a word you can’t remember by using synonyms or simple explanations
- Use strategies to overcome writer’s block
- Correct yourself in a natural way
- Ask for clarification in a conversation
How do I get feedback?
You will receive verbal guidance during class.
After the test simulations, you will get written feedback on your strengths and what you can continue to work on.
What topics do we work on?
We start with everyday topics such as work, school, and leisure.
Later, we also work on more relevant social topics such as climate and the environment, media and technology, human rights, and multicultural Norway.
