The program is approximately nine months long and includes twenty hours of study a week. The program includes the levels A1-A2, B1 and B2. Courses in social studies and grammar are also included.
The program consists of small groups from 8 to 16 students. This gives the One Year Program an intensive and pleasant atmosphere in order to learn the language with maximum results.
After completing the program, participants will be at level B2 based on the language levels described in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). If participants have attended all sessions and completed all assignments, they should be ready to take the Bergenstest exam ("test i norsk - høyere nivå''). This test will document participant’s competence in the Norwegian language. It will be possible to continue on to C1-1 level after completing the One-Year Program.
Sessions are held daily from Monday to Thursday from 9:00 to 13:10. Each session consists of five lesson hours (of 45 minutes each). The OYP consists in total of 750 lesson hours.
OYP 750 hours
Students will progressively build up their knowledge of Norwegian language by working regularly with different texts, applying new vocabulary in everyday conversation, and working with grammatical structures. During this intensive program, the students' ability to communicate will improve after each hour.
The One Year Program gives students a possibility to practice the Norwegian language and encourages them to use the language outside of Alfaskolen. Through this immersive study schedule, students notice that their ability to communicate and understand their surroundings improves with every session.
In Practical Norwegian, students work with vocabulary and grammar, as well as pronunciation and listening skills, in small groups. The focus of the session will vary from day to day.
The use of books and other learning resources on levels A1-A2, B1, B2 and grammar is obligatory. The cost of books is NOT included in the course price. Books can be purchased at the school, in Norwegian bookstores or online. For the social studies course materials are included in the price and are prepared by the teacher.
