Our staff consists of qualified lecturers – linguists, philologists, pedagogues and other specialists.Our teachers are able to speak several different languages, but to secure high quality education, they will mostly only speak the taught language.

NORWEGIAN 1AThis first stage course is designed for those who consider themselves absolute beginners in learning Norwegian. It involves a basic introduction into the Norwegian language and society. Weekend group courses start when at least 6 people have signed up. The course involves individual, pair and group work, discussions, oral and listening comprehension exercises and homework assignments. The course is very intensive. There will be a lot of homework and you will have to work with excercises on the internet during the week. You will be expected to learn vocabulary and revise material and prepare well to upcoming lessons. This course is suited for those who want to learn Norwegian in a extensive way but at the same time within a short period of time. Each semester course corresponds to one whole level:Semester course Norwegian level 1 - covers the book "På vei".Semester course Norwegian level 2 - covers the book "Stein på stein".Semester course Norwegian level 3 - covers the book "Her på berget".Each course costs 12.480,- NOK. Additional information and paymentThe minimum period of studying is one week. New students will be taking a short test on their first day (Monday) to allow the staff to put them in the group corresponding with their level.Interactive and focused classroom activities will give you the opportunity to practise grammatical structures and new vocabulary in a relaxed and - supportive environment. You will receive a lot of personal attention. Different teachers have different styles of teaching, but the Alfa Skolen 'style of teaching' is dynamic and communicative. In class you will often work in pairs or small groups so you have the chance to speak as much Norwegian as possible. Teachers and students take their studies seriously and work very hard, but you will also have a lot of fun in class.When coming to course, please bring a notebook with you. You will receive all the study material you need in class. You will have homework every night and a revision test at the end of each week, which will help you monitor your own progress.At the end of your course, you will receive a detailed certificate showing your level.PAYMENTThe course payment will be made through bank transfer or Pay Pal. These courses are designed for anyone who wishes to learn the Dutch language or improve his/her skills in Dutch, because of e.g. a Dutch speaking partner, a Dutch or Belgian family background, or a future job or study in the Netherlands or Belgium.On the regular courses you will work with the book called "Taal Vitaal", which corresponds with the language level A1-A2. The book covers 20 chapters with each chapter focusing on a specific area of everyday life, e.g. eating and drinking, travel, family, jobs and work etc., allowing you to be able to communicate in everyday situations. The use of the book "Taal Vitaal" (both text and workbook) is obligatory. They can be bought at our school.Key vocabulary for the topic introduces each chapter and leads into dialogues and texts which put the words into context. These are followed by practice exercises and reading texts which take a wider and more in-depth look at the topic in hand. NOTE: Participants who take part in 1-on-1 individual lessons are allowed to postpone a lesson latest 24 hours before the scheduled meeting. In case the school is notified too late or in case of a no-show, the participant will be charged for the missed-out lesson.

These courses are designed for anyone who wishes to learn the Spanish language or improve his/her skills in Spanish, because of e.g. a Spanish speaking partner, a future job or study in a Spanish speaking country, or a planned trip to Latin America.These courses are designated for persons beginning the study of the Spanish language and wishing to develop linguistic abilities essential to understanding and being understood in Spanish in all everyday life and professional situations. Using various methods and teaching techniques we develop four language competencies being: writing, reading, speaking and understanding what is heard. Particular emphasis is however placed on developing practical abilities in the use of the Spanish language. We teach fluent and correct communication, instil grammar and develop the vocabulary resources of our students. Lessons are conducted in the target language, which rapidly develops understanding of what is heard.Books are not included in the course price and may be purchased at our school or in a bookshop.

POLISH
These courses are designed for anyone who wishes to learn the Polish language or improve his/her skills in Polish, because of e.g. Polish employees / colleagues who you can't understand, Polish family background, a planned long trip to Poland, or a future job or study in this interesting country. We offer courses on all levels: the beginners courses are basic courses covering pronunciation, syntax, grammar rudiments and basic vocabulary useful in everyday communication with Polish people. You will learn how to introduce yourself, order food and drinks in a restaurant, talk about the weather and conduct a simple casual conversation. You will also get basic information about the Polish language, society and culture. The advanced courses are suited for those who have already acquired basic knowledge of Polish grammar and vocabulary.On the courses we focus both on grammar, vocabulary and conversation.NOTE: Participants who take part in 1-on-1 individual lessons are allowed to postpone a lesson latest 24 hours before the scheduled meeting. In case the school is notified too late or in case of a no-show, the participant will be charged for the missed-out lesson.

These courses are for those who are taking the first steps into communicating in English in everyday situations. The courses will provide you the opportunity to start building your skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as introducing you to active / working vocabulary and grammar knowledge. Books are not included in the price and can be purchased at our school. A large quantity of homework is given during the course. The course is conducted at 3 language knowledge levels. One level includes 72 hours of study and continues for 12 weeks. The course is offered in the form of 6 semester courses:•Autumn semester (September-December)•Winter semester (January-March)•Spring semester (April-June)Each semester corresponds to one level according to the European assessment scale (scale is attached in brochure). The focus in these English classes is on communication through spoken and written English. These courses are designed for anyone who wishes to learn the Russian language or improve his/her skills in Russian, because of e.g. a Russian family background, a planned long trip to Russia, or a future job or study in this immense and interesting country. "Russian for beginners I and II" are basic courses covering pronunciation, syntax, grammar rudiments and basic vocabulary useful in everyday communication with Russian-speaking people. You will learn e.g. how to introduce yourself, order food and drinks in a restaurant, talk about the weather and conduct a simple casual conversation. You will also get basic information about the Russian language, society and culture. FAQ NORWEGIAN LANGUAGE COURSES 1. Bergenstest?Its a test that has been prepared by the University in Bergen and Folkeuniversitetet to test the knowledge of the Norwegian language. The test is divided into oral and written parts and is held 3 times a year. Who can take up such a test? Both those who want to check their level of Norwegian and those who have to present a written certificate in Norwegian in order to take up studies or employment as specialists in given fields in Norway, e.g. as doctors of medicine. This refers to first of all foreigners but also Norwegians who graduated from high schools abroad. The test is a certified document both in the Norwegian schools and institutions and is treated as a state exam. The written exam consists of 5 parts. They include dialogues on everyday life, close-up tests, listening comprehension and grammar exercises. The test lasts about 6 hours. Part 1: Text Comprehension. Part 2: Grammar. Part 3: Vocabulary and idioms. Part 4: Written presentation. Part 5: Essay on one of given topics. We do not receive marks on the Bergenstest but points from 150-700. The more points we get, the better language knowledge we present. All the test participants receive the results after 5 weeks. Applications for the test are collected till September, 15 and the results will be known. Egzaminy after November, 27. Exams take place at the same time in Oslo, Drammen, Kristiansand, Stavanger (Sola), Bergen, Ålesund, Trondheim, Tromsø and Alta. The test is quite expensive because it costs 1 200 NOK so it is good to be well prepared. Preparatory tests are held in whole Norway in most of the language schools. Yet the exclusive right to hold the Bergenstest has only one qualified institution Folkeuniversitet - Norsk språktest 34 Christian Krohgs gate, 0186 Oslo, phone number: 22 98 88 22, fax: 22 98 88 01. Good luck! 2. How to get to our school? Courses are held in the very heart of Oslo in 8 Karl Johans gate. 8 - 2 minutes from the Central station. You have all means of transport at reach: buses, trams, underground and trains. When you walk up from the Central Station in the Karl Johans gate, you will find number 8 on the left hand side opposite the Oslo cathedral, called Domkirke. Our school is located in the building on the 4th floor.3. How many levels of Norwegian are there? The Norwegian system of education divides the knowledge of the Norwegian language into 3 levels; each of them is divided into 2 parts. Each of the parts is in turn divided into 2. Academic Level 1 is divided into: Nivå 1 − the book På Vei, chapters 1-10 (most of Norwegian schools, including ours, teach from this book), Nivå 2 − the book På Vei, chapters 11-17, Academic Level 2: Nivå 3 first part of the book Stein På Stein, Nivå 4 − the second part of the book; Academic Level 3: Nivå 5 the first part of the book Her På Berget, Nivå 6 the second part of the book. After those 3 academic levels or in other words 6 school levels, we can take up the last course: Nivå 7 that prepares to the Bergenstest. 4. How to enrol in a course? You can enrol in the school secretarial office in the 8 Karl Johans gate or by e-mail: info _ alfaskolen.no or by phone: 22410120. The easiest way, however, is to click on the application form on our website. Attention! The application is binding. All participants withdrawing from the course later than within 7 days before the course starts will be charged with the fee of 400 NOK. In case of resignation from the course after the course start-up date, all participants are charged with the full course fee. When you do not come to the course, it is not tantamount to the course resignation. 5. Which books do we learn from?In the courses we use the books På vei level 1, part A, B, C and Stein på Stein level 2, part A, B, C and Her på berget level 3, part A, B, C. The books can be purchased in our school or in a bookshop at the same price. In our school you can purchase as well a pictorial dictionary (English-Norwegian-Spanish-German-French) and Norwegian dictionary. 6. How and when shall I pay for the course? After the course enrolment you will receive an invoice to the name and address given. You can pay the invoice in the bank or at the post office. On the invoice on the yellow part there is BETALINGSFRIST, which means the date by which the invoice must be paid. When you pay at the post office, please take with you a receipt to the first class. 7. Will I get a course certificate after the course has finished? All participants present in 75% of the classes have the right to get a course certificate. In the certificate there is information on the material covered in the course, the course level, the date and the teachers name. The certificate is issued at the students request in the school secretarial office. 8. How many persons are there in a group? There are usually between 8-10 persons. 9. I cant attend the course. Can I take up a course on a later date?Yes. The course transfer is possible after settling it with our secretarial office (only if there is still vacancy in a given group) and paying the fee of 400 NOK. The transfer is possible just 1 time and the course participant takes up the course in the same lesson at the moment of transfer. The transfer is binding and after it is not possible to go back to the previous group. The fee 400 NOK is paid at the time of transfer. 10. Can I take up classes that I couldnt come to? Only in cases of force majeure, e.g. illness which should be documented with a sick leave, business trip a written statement from the employer and only if there is a group on the same level and there will be vacancies in the group. 11. Where can I find work?Alfa Skolen is looking for qualified teachers-native speakers. All interested in cooperation with us, are asked to send us their CV to our e-mail: info_alfaskolen.no. However, we are not a job agency and do not provide any information or help in work search. 12. I want to enrol in the course with my husband. Can we get a discount?Alfa Skolen is a private institution focus on an individual customer. We do not receive any subsidy from the state and have one of the cheapest courses on the market. We do not grant family discounts; only in case of enrolling in 3 parts we send one invoice with 10% discount. 13. I dont know which course level to choose. In our school you have a possibility to write a test or arrange a meeting with one of our teachers. 14. Are there many conversations in the classes?The courses held in our school are based on the book På vei and consist of text work, grammar part and conversations and discussions on a given topic. 15. How can I resign from the course?You can resign from the course free of charge till 7 working days before the course starts. After that you must pay a fee of 400 NOK. The full course fee is charged when you resigning after the course start-up date. Each resignation must be presented in a written form. 16. Can I pay for the course on instalments?Yes, the payment can be divided into 2 instalments. The first should be paid before the course starts, the other after 4 weeks of the course. The fee 200 NOK is calculated to the first instalment. The payment for the course books cannot be divided into instalments.
